It's been a while, hasn't it? We're a bit hit-or-miss with our monthly emails, but we give it a crack anyway. Here's a quick rundown of what's been happening since we last caught up back in February. πŸ‘‡
 

Bump-date

The last time we chatted, we were on a mission to figure out what in the world was up with the mysterious bump on Lily’s face - enter "Betty" the boop.

After some tests that didn't quite reveal the whole story, Betty bid farewell via a little surgical intervention.

The biopsy results? Well, just a bunch of inflamed cells hanging out. So it’ll always be a bit of a mystery as to what happened and why, but at least it wasn't anything serious. Check out the healing process below - not too shabby hey!?
 

Coral Bleaching

Now, onto something a bit heavier. In March 2024, it was made official: the confirmation of the fifth mass bleaching event on the Great Barrier Reef. We put together a video to showcase the alarming transformation of the reefs in just five short months. It's a heartbreaking sight, to say the least.

For the first time ever, extreme bleaching was observed in all three regions of the Great Barrier Reef. With high bleaching levels on a staggering 39% of the reefs across the Marine Park, it's a stark reminder of the urgent need for action. Where We've Been + Where We're Going

In the past few weeks, we've been exploring Cooktown, Lizard Island, a few islands in between, and areas further north of Lizard Island. We've also been hopping around the inner, mid, and outer reefs to check on their health, plus do some spearing.

Right now, we're back in Port Douglas. We’re keen on a new adventure, but we're still trying to work out what that looks like. We've got a few ideas bouncing around, and hopefully, by the time we send our next email, we'll have a clearer plan of action.
