We explore with deep respect for the places we visit, the cultures connected to them, and the stories they hold.
LIVING ON A SAILING BOAT
Most people know us from our life on the water.
For the past six years, we’ve lived aboard our sailing boat, exploring remote hideaways, anchoring at untouched islands, and letting weather, tides, and curiosity guide our days.
We’d both spent a lot of time on boats and in the ocean before, but sailing was completely new to us. As in, zero experience.
Lily was 23, Hayden was 27, and we bought a sailing boat and set off the very next day.
What we did have, though, was a dream bigger than anything else, and a shared desire to explore wild, untouched places.
And that's exactly what life became.
Having moments with nature that words don't quite cover.
BUT WHEN YOU LIVE AT THE MERCY OF NATURE, YOU TAKE THE GOOD WITH THE WILD..
Or, as the world of sailing puns would put it, it hasn't always been smooth sailing.
Storms. Swell. Tides. Cyclones.
Uncharted ocean and reefs.
Rescues, of animals and humans.
Weeks with very (very) little sleep.
Once, we even found ourselves washed up on a beach after a huge, completely unpredicted storm.
Some of the coolest things we’ve experienced out there, we’ve never really shared. We were too busy being completely blown away and fully in our element.
And then, life moved on, and we never quite found a way to convey our experiences.
We’re talking: abandoned Leper colonies. WWII radar stations. Ancient rock art. Middens. Burial sites. Undocumented wrecks. And… well, a lot more.
We explore with deep respect for the places we visit, the cultures connected to them, and the stories they hold, and we don’t take the experiences they offer lightly. We’re deeply appreciative and honoured to experience them.
Everyone has a place or a thing that makes them feel most alive. For us, it’s out there.
In remote, naturally insane parts of the world. Seeing things most people never do.
Feeling that surge where you think, how is this even real, and you just want to keep going…
Your heart beats a little faster, because this is when you feel most alive.
And once you’ve felt that, it’s pretty hard to sit still and not wonder what else is waiting out there.
